One place not to be missed while in Amsterdam is Wynand Fockink, a charming bar and tasting room that serves Jenever - a Dutch spirit said to be the grandmother of gin. Built in 1679, it is Amsterdam’s oldest tasting room, nestled in a quiet alley in the heart of the city.

The knowledgeable and friendly bartenders will make your visit an unforgettable cultural experience. They're true connoisseurs - taking their time explaining the history and process of making Jenever. They're also more than happy to pour samples of the different flavors to help you pick the perfect drink for you. Jenever can be ordered in its original form similar to a gin, a darker version aged in whiskey barrels, or flavored liqueurs - all of which are made in their distillery next door. It's served in small tulip-shaped glasses to the rim and the tradition is to take your fist sip from the bar top...without using your hands. Tours of their tasting room can be scheduled ahead of time.

Don't miss this one-of-a-kind experience on your next visit to Amsterdam!
